On being a sprinkler system pro

04/28/2015 by Holly

I’m typing without the use of my right thumb and pointer finger today due to some sprinkler work I did over the weekend. Ok, not really, but let me just say this: these little sprinkler-doo-hickeys are NO JOKE.

The way you have to pinch and push them tears up your hands. The first three made me think “hmmmmm….this does not feel great.” And the last three made me think “PLEASE GOD IS IT OVER YET.”

But I am happy to report that I {hopefully} successfully installed one side of sprinkler system AND programmed the sprinkler panel and am now wondering if NASA wants to employ me.

I’ve now checked my phone and am sad to report they have not called. I did however discover that someone named “wet couches” has a really funny Instagram feed.

Hi! I found your blog via your GardenWeb post. We’
re struggling with finding a simple soaker system we can use to water new boxwoods and perennials at our house in Mentone where we do NOT live full time. Will you let me know what system you used, and anything you learned along the way, please? We’ve already purchased one that, once opened and studied, will probably not work for our needs….. Bummer. Thanks!

      Hi Elaine!
It’s a RainBird Esp-Me and so far we like it a lot–but my husband has mentioned he wishes we would have sprung the extra to have gotten something that is radar-responsive with the option to control from a smart phone. This unit does have a rain sensor attached, but we got a ton of rain last night and I still heard it running at 5 am today…looks like I need to revisit some settings.
These little 180 and 360 degree heads I installed myself put out *a ton* of water…I figured I would need to run them a few minutes each day, and it’s more like one minute…and I wish there was a 30 second setting…it’s really impressive.
I will be interested to hear what you decide on!

Oh, hi there

I'm Holly from zone 7b.
My veggies grow above ground where the rabbits help themselves, and the flowers grow in ground where the children help themselves. Sometimes I wish I was a pioneer. Then I move the clothes from the washer to the dryer and think better of it.
